Newsletter – Autumn 2019
Hello from Year 4 and welcome back to another exciting school year! We hope that you have had a relaxing summer and that the children are feeling refreshed and ready for both lots of work and fun this year. Year 4 is fortunate to have three members of staff working with them this term, Mr Smith, Mrs Jevans and Mrs Worrall.
During this term, alongside our Maths and English lessons, the class will be exploring The Ancient Egyptians and early civilisations in our History lessons, finding out how the human body works in science and during our RE lessons we will be thinking about the good news found in the gospels and how we can find this good news in our own lives today.
Homework this year will be given out on a Friday, it will consist of spellings and a spelling based task to be tested the following Thursday. Children will also be required to practice their times tables using the Times Table Rockstars website or mobile phone app 3 times a week. If any children struggle to complete any parts of their homework we will be more than happy to make time to help work though it in class.
Times tables are very important in year 4 as it is a curriculum requirement for year 4 children to be able to quickly and confidently recall times table facts up to 12×12. It is my hope that a greater focus on times tables this year will allow the children to be more confident in their knowledge and abilities as the year progresses.
All children have also been given a reading book and reading diary to take home with them which is expected to be signed at least 3 times a week. Reading is a very important part of their learning and reading with a parent or guardian at home is appreciated and helps your children immeasurably.
PE will be taught outdoors this half term (weather permitting) on a Monday afternoon which will be followed by dance which will be done indoors. Children will be required to wear a full school PE kit with appropriate footwear. If your child has their ears pierced please ensure that earrings are taken out before school.
It is important for health and well-being that your child has access to fresh water throughout the day. Please make sure that your child has a water bottle in school, which can be taken home as required.
Please do not hesitate to share any concerns or ask any questions that you may have throughout the year, as we would welcome support and open communication.
Year 4 Teacher
This week has been faith week in school. Year 4 have had a very busy one visiting 3 different churches to learn the difference in denominations within Christianity. Take a look at some of the photos of our adventures below
Recently year 4 had the wonderful opportunity of spending the night at Warrington’s own Peace Centre. The Centre that was built after the tragic bombings on Bridge
Street in 1993 has become a wonderful beacon of hope in the community. Year 4 learned all about the history of the peace centre, learned some orienteering skills on a nature walk around Sankey Valley and got to sleep over with the entire class. A fantastic few days was had by all! Have a look at some of our adventures below!
