Children in Year 5 and Year 6 have been participating in a special Lenten Challenge. The initiative was set up by the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, and gives children challenges to choose from every week of Lent. One challenge that appealed to our children was helping local people who live on the streets. Taking care of yourself is difficult when you don’t have a fixed address, so Y5 and Y6 set about making toiletries bags for 31 people. Each one contains toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps, flannels and other useful toiletry items. Our cook, Mrs Derrick, is a supporter of a local homeless charity and agreed to drop them of for us. We hope our neighbours find them useful and our children’s generosity a comfort. Many thanks to our staff for making this very compassionate Lenten appeal happen.
