We hope that you all had a relaxing summer and that the children are refreshed and ready for some challenges! This year your child will be taught by:
During autumn term, our topic will be ‘London and Democracy’. In Science, we will be studying ‘Properties and Changes of Materials’. For RE, we will be exploring the theme ‘Jesus Bringer of Good News’, through Bible study and other sacred resources.
English lessons will be based around our class book, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ by J K Rowling.
In Maths, our primary focus will be on ‘Place Value and Number’ including addition/subtraction, multiplication/division.
PE and Dance
Dance lessons will take place each Thursday and PE lessons each Friday. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school.
Their indoor kit must include purple shorts, white t-shirt and black pumps. Providing a tracksuit and trainers for outdoors is also a good idea.
Please make sure your child has a drinks bottle each day. Water only please!
Dinner and snack money
Your child can buy a snack in school for morning playtime or bring a healthy snack from home. If your child requires a school dinner, please ensure the correct money is supplied in an envelope including your child’s name and year group.
Please encourage your child to read at home as much as possible to improve their confidence and understanding. An adult should sign/initial their ‘reading diary’ at least 3-times per week. Your child can also access www.readtheory.org, an on-line reading comprehension site. This can be recorded in their reading diary and count towards their weekly reading target.
English and Maths homework will usually be given out weekly, on a Friday, and should be handed in the following Wednesday. Sometimes the children may be given an extended homework project relating to a topic to complete over a longer period.
Maths homework aims to consolidate what has been learnt in class. By year 5, the children should know times tables to 12×12. Your child has a login for Times Table Rock Stars to help them develop their knowledge and speed.
Spellings will also be given on a Friday with a test the following week. Your child’s spelling list can also be accessed at www.spellingcity.com where they can play on-line games to help them recall the words on their list.
If your child struggles with any of their homework, please don’t hesitate to speak to us.
It is very important to us that your child has a happy and successful year in school, so please do not hesitate to speak to us should you have any concerns or queries. If you are unable to see us before or after school, please contact the school office and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
