We have been very fortunate to be able to work with Balfour Beatty on their renovation of the cenotaph. One of the company’s lead engineers, Ryan, visited school recently to tell us all about the project. Today Year 5 and 6 visited Balfour Beatty’s site office where we listened to a fascinating talk about the work so far. Ryan had made a time lapse film of the cenotaph obelisk being removed with an enormous crane. We heard about the history of the site, what it means to us as a community and how the site on the river bank has caused challenges for the engineers. Following that, we walked over to the building site where Ryan described the scope of the work, progress so far and the methods and machinery used. The children thought it was fascinating and asked some amazing questions. As always they were great ambassadors for our school family. We’ll be seeing Ryan and some of his colleagues next week for our KS2 Primary Futures Week. We can’t wait.
