Class Teacher - Mr Lewis                   Teaching Assistant - Miss Bates & Mrs Hammam

20 July 2021 - Trip to Petty pool

Year 5 visited Petty Pool Outdoor Activities Centre.

The children had an action packed day at Petty Pool on the high ropes, climbing wall, crate stacking and archery. Fabulous fun!

July 2021 - budding authors

The children have been busy creating some wonderful writing linked to our current book, The Hunter. They have enjoyed creating comic strips about some of the characters' thoughts and feelings.

cream tea in y5

Anyone for cream tea? Well, if we must! Pile on the jam and cream please, Miss!

We devoured our scrumptious 'fully loaded' scones this afternoon.

26 May 2021 - Sports Day

An awesome amount of fun was had by Year 5 at our LSJ Sports Day. We did it all: football, rugby, throwing, skipping, games, crazy golf, Bitesize Bootcamp, ice lollies and finally, 'floor is lava' in forest school. Brilliant Day!

Slipping and Sliding

Wet and messy but they absolutely loved slipping and sliding. Even the teachers got wet! Brilliant fun!

May 2021 - Real Gym

Year 5 have had great fun today in our first Real Gym session. The children were able to try out all of the apparatus in the hall, working with their partner to choose which areas and levels they wanted to explore. They thoroughly enjoyed the lesson, as did the teachers 😊

April 2021 - Year 5 summer term newsletter

Have a look at our newsletter for this term to find out what exciting things we'll be up to!

23 April 2021 - St George's Day

We have enjoyed listening to the legend of St George today and talking about our 'Christian Values' and how they can help us to overcome conflicts with each other.

March 2021 - The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield

Chris Hadfield was the first Canadian in space but as a little boy he was afraid of the dark. Today, Year 5 explored vocabulary for how Chris might have felt after watching the 1969 moon landings. They decided which words were most relevant to describe Chris's feelings at this point in the book and used some of their choices in their writing.

March 2021 - Space themed dream cathcers

Year 5 had great fun creating their own dream catchers on their return to school. As we are currently studying 'Space' in Science and our reading and writing units are also 'Space' themed (through Chris Hadfield's - The Darkest Dark and The Literacy Company's - Exploring Space) we thought Space dream catchers were a must smiley

World Book day 2021

We have enjoyed celebrating World Book Day, today.  The children have been enjoying their favourite books in school and at home as well as exploring a beautiful text, The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse by Chris Mackesy.  We have created posters, inspired by quotes from the book and produced some amazing artwork too.

Chinese New year, 12 February 2021

Today, we have celebrated Chinese New Year.  Activities such as making lanterns, designing dragons, writing our names in Mandarin Chinese characters, trying Qi Gong, a traditional form of Chinese yoga and tasting Chinese foods, the children have been busy.

This Friday, 5th February, is LSJ’s ‘Fun Friday’ and we are exploring ways to express ourselves for Children’s Mental Health Week 2021. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. It is about finding a way to show who you are, and how you see the world, that can help you feel good about yourself.

Enjoy 😊

Thank you for sending us all your lovely 'Fun Friday' photos for Children's Mental Health Week 2021.

We hope you had a wonderful day 😊

Mrs Daintith and Mrs Worrall have been blown away with Year 5's home learning effort.  From studying multiplication and division in maths; forces in science; myth writing, based on a fabulous picture book, Arthur and the Golden Rope, for English; to creating designs for London Fashion Week and modelling Big Ben for their London project, they really have been busy.

Before writing their myths, they enjoyed researching characters from the Norse World and created Top Trumps cards to profile their favourites. They illustrated story maps of Arthur's perilous journey to Valhalla adding written detail with adverbials and noun phrases.

In RE, we have been studying the Kingdom of God through the Parable of the Talents, where the children have created talent jigsaws and diaries.

Well done, Year 5 😊

Awesome Art smiley

In science, the children have been studying 'properties and changes in materials'.  Here they were investigating which materials would dissolve in water.  Ask them to tell about soluble and insoluble materials.
